Sydney (Fides Service) - "The government does listen to
the Churches in Australia, but this situation is very difficult",
Cardinal Edward Idris Cassidy, a member of the Congregation for
the Evangelisation of Peoples and former president of the Pontifical
Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, said this in a conversation
with Fides Service (see
complete interview). We contacted the Cardinal in Australia
with regard to a Working Paper on the Humanitarian Program for
People Seeking Asylum in Australia - an alternative policy on
Asylum Seekers launched on 17 September by the President of the
Australian Conference of Leaders of Religious Institutes (ACLRI),
Sr Bernadette Keating PBVM.
