Africa/Angola - Sounds and colours of Africa: large crowds gather for Card. Sepe, years of war have not dampened Catholic enthusiasm

Luanda (Fides Service) - "The Cardinal's visit has been an opportunity for the Church in Angola to show all of its enthusiasm and vitality, despite the suffering caused by years of civil war" , the nuncio Archbishop Angelo Becciu, told Fides. "This was seen particularly at the Mass on Sunday 27, which was to take place in the cathedral but had to be held in the sports stadium to seat the unexpectedly high number of participants. Surrounded by crowds of at least 10,000 praying with all the sounds and colours so typical of Africa, the Cardinal was able to see for himself the deeply rooted faith of the Angolan people. The Cardinal met with the same human warmth and spiritual fervour in Benguela and Lubango. Giving a first impression of this pastoral visit, the Nuncio said: "The visit by the Prefect of Propaganda Fide has strengthened the faith of Christians in Angola" (Fides Service 30/10/2002)
