Kinshasa (Fides Service) - Thousands of refugees, forced several
years ago to abandon their homes in Sudan because of war, are
now moving once again because of violence in north east Democratic
Congo. Local sources say that mover 17,000 displaced Sudanese
who had sought shelter in Ituri province, mostly women and children,
have gathered their few belongings and taken once more to the
road. Sudanese refugees first began to arrive 12 years ago and
many had settled well into the local communities here. Now they
will have to start all over again, who knows where. Ituri region
has been for years the scene of tribal clashes between Hemas shepherds
and Lenu, subsistence farmers. We ask, in the face of yet another
African tragedy: "Why is the media silent? Where do we draw
the line between indifference and complicity?" (Fides Service
