Luanda (Fides Service) - "The Church knows the path to peace,
which is not merely absence of war, it is violence removed from
the hearts of men. Unless its people become men of peace, Angola
will never be a land of peace". Cardinal Sepe said this on
Sunday 27 October during his homily at a solemn concelebration
of the Eucharist in Luanda Cathedral with the bishops of Angola
and Sao Tome. The Mass was to thank God for the Peace agreement
signed on April 4 this year which put an end to long years of
civil war. The Cardinal encouraged the people to work for peace
"the future of your country depends on your attitude and
your commitment for peace." He urged the Bishops and clergy
to be tireless in their service to witnessing and proclaiming
the Good News". He asked Religious to "live consecration
to God in sincere unconditioned service of your brothers and sisters".
The Cardinal told young people "not to waste their energies
on following false idols. But to strive to live the true vales
of justice and honesty and purity". Speaking lastly to Angolan
families, the Cardinal reminded them that the family is "called
to be a hearth of love, a domestic church and a school of Christian
life, and he urged them to protect this shrine of life".
Cardinal Sepe is in Angola until tomorrow, 29 October. See
