Luanda (Fides Service) - "Today, my dear brother Bishops,
a new springtime opens before you, marked by dreams and hope
A
time in which you will devote all your energy to consolidating
peace, promoting reconciliation, forgiveness and Christian charity
A
time in which it will be necessary to heal the deep wounds which
long years of hardship and war have dug in the lives of millions
of Angolans". Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation
for the Evangelisation of Peoples said this in an address to the
Bishops of Angola and Sao Tome, in Luanda on October 25, the first
of his two day visit to the country. Speaking of the need for
renewal in the Church in Angola, in order to face new challenges,
after the signing of peace agreements on April 4, the Cardinal
underlined that "the time has come to undertake new evangelisation
because only Christ can put in the heart of every Angolan, converted
by grace and anchored to grace, the true contents and values of
peace". "The people of Angola are hungry for bread,
justice, health, instruction security. But dear Brothers, allow
me to remind you of something of which you are well aware: your
people are thirsting for God!" The Cardinal transmitted to
the Bishops the apostolic blessing of Pope John Paul II and he
recalled the visit to Angola made by the Pope in 1992. See Cardinal
Sepe's address on Italian
