Nairobi (Fides Service) - Centuries ago when not many people
could read or write, Christian art served as a means to teach
the Bible. Today, despite the many words used, pictures are still
a good way of teaching. One of the latest undertakings of the
Daughters of Saint Paul in Kenya is a catechetical programme called
African Posters to Teach the Bible. With 62 beautiful posters
the Sisters hope to open the riches of the Scriptures to Christians
and non, children and old people, literate and illiterate. The
posters in typical African style, bearing captions in English
and Swahili, are accompanied by spoken lessons on the Bible stories
depicted. The lessons are followed by discussion and input by
the students. (Fides Service 23/10/2002)
