Bishop Andrea Giacinto Longhin, a missionary who never left Italy
Andrea Giancinto Longhino (1863-1936) of the Orders of Friars Minor Capuchins, never set foot in a mission land but he was in heart and action a missionary. As a Franciscan he soon became aware that he belonged to an Order called to evangelise the world. As Bishop of Treviso he encouraged Orders of Religious to work in his diocese. In fact in the 25 years that he was Bishop the number of religious communities in the diocese increased. He welcomed enthusiastically not only Franciscans, but also Passionists, Salesians, Carmelites, Somaschi Fathers, Camillians Fathers Giuseppini, Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
