The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has,
created (March 27, 2002) the Vicariate Apostolic of Taytay (Philippines)
dividing the present Palawan Vicariate Apostolic.
Palawan vicariate will henceforth be called Puerto Princesa
appointed (March 27, 2002) Vicar Apostolic of Tayatay (Philippines)
Rev. Mgr Edgardo Sarabia Juanich of Palawan clergy, assigning
to him the titular see of Ausuaga.
The new Vicariate Apostolic of Taytay (Philippines) will comprise
the northern district of the present Vicariate of Palawan with
its See in the city of Palawan. Whereas the present day Vicariate
Apostolic of Palawan will henceforth be known as Puerto Princesa
and it will comprise the central and southern regions of the present
day Vicariate.
The reasons for the division are pastoral: vast territory and
difficult communications: bad roads, mostly dirt tracks, out of
use in the rainy season.

The new Vicar Apostolic of Tayatay (Philippines) Rev. Mgr Edgardo
Sarabia Juanich of Palawan clergy was born in Taytay (Palawan)
on April 29, 1952. He studied in the Philippines and was ordained
on July 11, 1976 for the Vicariate Apostolic of Palawan. He has
since been: assistant priest at various places: Busauangami 1976-78;
Narra 1978-79; Brooke's Point 1979-80; El Nido 1980-86; collaborator
in St Pius X parish, Manila; spiritual director of the St John
of God Brothers in Manila; spiritual director and professor at
San Jose seminary, Puerto Princesa City; parish priest at the
cathedral Puerto Princesa City 1994-2000; since 2001parish priest
