| The activity of the Congregation for the Evangelisation
of Peoples |
With the new Apostolic Constitution Pastor Bonus,
dated June 28, 1988, "it falls to the Congregation to direct
and coordinate all over the world the work of the evangelisation
of peoples, and missionary cooperation except for territories dependent
on the Congregation for Oriental Churches (cfr. art. 88; 89).
In its own territories the congregation establishes and divides
missionary circumscriptions according to necessity. It presides
the government of missions and examines reports sent in by Ordinaries
and Bishops' Conferences. Societies of Apostolic Life established
for missionary work are dependent on the Congregation (art. 90,
& sec. 2). The Congregation administers its patrimony and other
goods destined to the missions through it special office (art. 92).
