Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation
for the Evangelisation of Peoples, departs today, Friday November
8, for a pastoral visit to Albania. The main purpose of his visit
is to consecrate the new Cathedral of Rrëshen dedicated to
"Jesus, only Saviour of the World", on Saturday November
9 at 10 am. The event is a sign of new hope and new life for a Church
which after long persecution has resumed its activity over the past
ten years in a country which still burdened with contradictions
and difficulties. Moreover for the local Church Cardinal Sepe's
visit is a welcome gesture of communion with the universal Church.
This afternoon, after meeting the President of Albania, the Prime
Minister and the chairman of Parliament, the missionary Prefect
will celebrate Mass at Tirana Cathedral. On Saturday evening he
will preside Vespers for the 10th anniversary of the opening of
the Mother of Good Counsel seminary. On Sunday 10 November the Cardinal
will celebrate Mass at Shkodrë Cathedral. During his stay in
Albania the Cardinal will meet the Bishops' Conference, missionaries,
the local clergy and religious men and women, and seminarians. The
Cardinal returns to Rome on November 12. |
