Kampala (Agenzia Fides) - Africa Faith leaders have agreed to involve their various constituencies in setting up a Post-2015 Development Agenda collective mechanism to ensure the full implementation of the goals that was held in Kampala, capital of Uganda. According to a statement sent to Fides Agency, over 200 religious leaders from across Africa- Bishops, Grand Muftis, leaders of the Baha’i community, Pentecostal Churches and other faiths in Africa- discussed Sustainable Development and the Post 2015 Development Agenda. The faith leaders commitment: to promote peace and reconciliation in countries and communities currently facing violence; promote interfaith dialogue and cooperation as a means of eradicating radicalization of religion by elements in the faith communities; advocate for the creation of mechanisms that ensure women, children, youth, people with disabilities and people living with HIV/AIDS are part and parcel of efforts meant to find solutions to Africa’s development challenges.
The post-2015 development agenda is a program launched by the UN, following that started in 2000 to achieve by 2015 the Millennium Development Goals in the areas of health, education and economic development of the poorest Countries in the world. The eight Goals are: eradication of poverty, achieving of UPE, promotion of gender equality and empowering of women, reduction of child mortality, improvement of maternal health, combating of HIV\AIDs, malaria and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.
