AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Appointment of Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Gaitán

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On July 10, 2014, the Holy Father appointed Fr. Luis Horacio Gomez Gonzalez, of the clergy of Manizales, Episcopal Vicar for the Administration in his archdiocese, as Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Gaitán (Colombia). He has been assigned the titular see of Liberalia.
Fr. Luis Horacio Gomez Gonzalez was born October 18, 1958 in the Municipality of Salaminas - Caldas, Manizales. He carried out his priesthood formation at the Major Seminary of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, Archdiocese of Manizales. He was ordained a priest on November 30, 1991, incardinated in the Archdiocese of Manizales.
He has served in a number of pastoral and administrative roles: 1992-1993: priest in Aranzazu; 1993-1997:Delegate for Social Pastoral; 1997-1998: Priest in the Parish of Castile (Corregimiento de Pacora); 1998-2004: Priest in Nuestra Señora de Chinquinquirá, Aguadas - Caldas; 2004-2005: Priest in La Inmaculada, Aguadas - Caldas; 2005-2010: Priest in Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, Manizales; 2010-2013: Priest in Nuestra Señora del Sagrado Corazón, Manizales; since 2013: Vicar for the Administration in the Archdiocese of Manizales. He was also a Member of the College of Consultors and the Council of Priests, Chaplain of the SENA (Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje) and professor at the Major Seminary of Manizales.
