AMERICA/PERU - Resignation of the Apostolic Vicar of Jaén en Peru o San Francisco Javier and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On June 11, 2014, the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Apostolic Vicariate of Jaén en Perú o San Francisco Javier (Peru), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Santiago María García de la Rasilla Domínguez, S.I., in accordance with can. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father has appointed Fr. Gilberto Alfredo Vizcarra Mori, S.I., as Apostolic Vicar of Jaén en Perú o San Francisco Javier (Peru).
Fr. Gilberto Alfredo Vizcarra Mori, S.I., was born on February 11, 1960 in Lima (Peru). After his primary and secondary studies in La Salle school in Lima, he attended the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Lima (1977-1979), then the Major University of San Marco in Lima (1980-1981), to study Civil Law. He entered the Novitiate of the Society of Jesus in 1982. He studied philosophy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (1985-1987) and theology in the Jesuit faculty in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and obtained a licentiate in Arabic in Cairo, Egypt (1994-1996) and a licentiate from the Institute of Arabic Studies and Islam, Rome (2001-2003). He was ordained a priest on 31 July 1994. After ordination, he has served in a number of pastoral and academic roles: 1994-1996: Studies in Arabic language; 1997-1998: Collaborator in vocation ministry of the Society of Jesus in Lima, 1997-2000: Priest in the parishes of “San Pedro y San Pablo” in Bitkine, Chad; 2001-2003: Arabic Studies and Islam, in Rome; 2003-2011: Priest of San Ignacio in the Vicariate of Mongo, Chad; superior of the community (2005); 2007-2011: founder and director of the “Fe y Alegria” project in Chad; 2012-2013: vicar in the parish of “Santa Teresa del Nino Jesus” in Abeche, Chad.
