AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN - Child soldiers leave school to "avenge" their parents' death

Wednesday, 30 April 2014

Juba (Agenzia Fides) - Oil interests and the politics of the area, in force since the colonial era, have generated great division and hatred among the people of Sudan. In an endless cycle of violence and thousands of displaced people who are starving or who are in disarray in the dusty streets of the city, there are many children who are recruited to fight against their own brothers. Many children leave school with the desire to avenge their parents' death. Hatred and revenge animate these little ones who wield heavy weapons. The conflict has spread from the capital, Juba, to the oil States. However, unfortunately, the war in addition to being caused by economic interests, also has an ethnic dimension, as it has turned into a battle between the tribes of President Salva Kiir, the Dinka and Vice President Machar, the Nuer. The feeling of revenge continues to perpetuate the armed conflict that has already caused the death of thousands and the displacement of one million people. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 30/04/2014)
