AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Resignation of the Apostolic Vicar of Inírida and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, on December 3, 2013, accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Apostolic Vicariate of Inírida (Colombia ), by His Exc. Mgr. Antonio Bayter Abud, M.X.Y., in accordance with can. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Fr. Joselito Carreño Quiñonez, M.X.Y., Vicar General of the Foreign Missions Institute of Yarumal, as Apostolic Vicar of Inírida (Colombia), assigning him the titular see of Paria of Proconsolare .
The new Apostolic Vicar was born April 16, 1966 in Cepitá, Diocese of Málaga- Soatá. After primary and junior school in Girón, he continued his formation in the Conciliar Seminary of Bucaramanga, where he studied Philosophy from 1986 to 1988. Animated by the desire to become a missionary, on 1 February 1990, he entered the Major Seminary of the Foreign Missions Institute of Yarumal, where he began his theological studies. After the novitiate in 1992, he continued his studies at the Hekima College in Nairobi (Kenya), where he graduated in Theology in 1996. He was ordained a priest on November 9, 1996 He has held the following pastoral and administrative positions: 1997-2000: Missionary in Kenya, in the diocese of Ngong; 2001-2002: Missionary in Ethiopia in the then Apostolic Prefecture of Gambella (now the Apostolic Vicariate); 2003-2005 regional Coordinator of the Institute for Foreign Missions of Yarumal in Kenya; 2006-2012: Rector of the Seminary of the Foreign Missions Institute of Yarumal in Nairobi; since 2012: Vicar General of his missionary Institute.
