Bangui (Agenzia Fides) - "The Central African Republic is now a Country adrift , with the entire population trapped like in a concentration camp, hostage of the Seleka government in turn adrift", writes Mgr. Juan Jose Aguirre Muno, Bishop of Bangassou, on the PeriodistaDigital website on the eve of the debate on the situation in the African country that will be held during the UN General Assembly in New York.
Mgr. Aguirre recalls that the coalition Seleka that "has invaded the Central Africa since the end of 2012 to present" has gradually torn apart through its five major military components, since it is only one of them that took power and the others (for a total of about 15,000 rebels) have become bandit formations to the unbridled pursuit of a prey to plunder.
The Bishop among other things recalls the dramatic situation of education despite the reopening of Catholic schools that "wanted to give an air of normalization in the social life of the Country, still in the hands of the excesses of Seleka".
"The central government had agreed, in order to give signs of normalcy to the international community, to carry out the college entrance exams (BAC)" recalls Mgr. Aguirre. "The 59,000 students in Catholic schools held the exams but they realized that the tests were full of irregularities. Many of our students were not on the lists prepared by the government".
Even more serious is what happened in the capital Bangui, where, as reported by the Bishop, "the youth belonging to Seleka entered the examination room armed and in military uniform, took the test sheet and left. Later they came back to hand in the test". (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 25/09/2013)
