Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - The Salesian Oratory Cheung Chau Don Bosco Oratory, which celebrated half a century of foundation in Hong Kong, is the testimony of the continuous and renewed commitment in the formative service of the youth on behalf of the spiritual children of Saint John Bosco known as Salesians. According to reports from Kung Kao Po, weekly newsletter of the Diocese of Hong Kong, the Cheung Chau Oratory welcomes children from 6 to 17 years of age, especially from poor families, single mothers or where both parents work, so they need someone to assist their children after school and during leisure time. Currently 11 members of the Association of Salesian Cooperators manage the activities of the Oratory together with volunteers of the area and a dozen students from the Catholic high school, under the guidance of the Salesians. The Don Bosco Oratory is therefore at the service of all street children, poor and orphans. In Hong Kong there are 6 oratories that offer not only formation service, but they are also a place of evangelization and vocational discernment. Salesian priests and seminarians accompany the path of these children every day, even through play and fun, always with an eye toward their integral growth, helping them to nurture their self-esteem and providing moral support.
