AMERICA/HAITI - A record for a new generation of Haitians

Monday, 15 October 2012

Port au Prince (Agenzia Fides) - A group of Haitian children welcomed in the "Niños Casa de Esperanza" project, mostly orphans, who live in a refugee camp in Port-au-Prince, has prepared a record that will be launched by a funds collection to support reception and education of the new generation of young Haitians. The album contains 12 tracks that were composed by the Haitian priest Father Freddy Elie. There are religious songs of praise and missionary themes, aimed at providing support to fight and grow in faith, on the occasion of the Year of Faith. With the funds raised from the sale, the organizers of the "Casa de Esperanza" will carry out a project of self-management for the future of this house, promoted by a group of over 20 women with the help of father Freddy. Their goal is to give a scolastic education to the poorest of the camps, so that within a decade they may help Haiti to recover. Even if the house does not have a monthly income, children always have something to eat, not just those who attend school but also all those who live in the area and approach the structure. Normally there are about 80 a day. 2 and a half years after the earthquake that devastated Haiti, more than 400,000 Haitians live in unsanitary conditions, surrounded by trash and, at best, with only a plastic roof shelter in refugee camps across the country.
