ASIA/HONG KONG - The preparations for the "Congress on the ministry of the laity" next October

Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - Responding to the objective of the sanctification of oneself indicated by the Year of the Laity; promoting the threefold ministry (prophetic, priestly and regal) of the laity; encouraging the exchange of experiences between members of the Chinese Catholic community spread all over the world: are the reasons for the "Congress on the ministry of the laity" to be held in Hong Kong from 27 October to 1 November, with the participation of about 200 representatives of the Catholic communities of the Chinese diaspora from Asia, Africa, America, Europe. According to reports from the Kong Ko Bao (Chinese version of the diocesan bulletin), Mgr. Dominic Chang, General Coordinator of the Congress and President of the Committee for the Year of the Laity, has announced that from May, the diocese of Hong Kong will begin the formation of local participants, helping them to reflect on the ministry of the laity in the particular setting of the Year of the Laity. Also according to the presentation of the initiative by Msgr. Chang, Cardinal John Tong, Bishop of Hong Kong, has already written to Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, inviting him to participate in the Congress which will include roundtables, workshops, visits to parishes and charities, participation in the liturgical life of the local community. Furthermore Msgr. Chang also announced the solemn closing of the Laity organized by the Diocese of Hong Kong, which will be held on December 16, thus concluding two years of intense ecclesial experience.
