Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - The catechumens’ assessment, spiritual retreats and other opportunities to strengthen faith, characterize the intense Lenten journey of Chinese Catholics on the continent. Among the spiritual moments experienced by many communities in this liturgical period, Faith of He Bei reports to Fides that 11 catechumens in the parish of Xi Tang, dedicated to the Miraculous Medal, in the diocese of Beijing, celebrated the assessment after a long period of catechism during which they enriched their faith formation. In the solemn celebration held on the first Sunday of Lent, they showed their willingness to be authentic followers of Christ. The pastor invited the community to pray for them and to accompany them with love and attention.
Pope Benedict XVI’s Lenten message - "We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works (Heb 10, 24)" – was instead the theme of the spiritual retreat for priests of the diocese of Hai Men in Jiang Su province, held on March 6. Being a particularly challenging period for the priests, who must closely monitor their communities who are experiencing Lent, the meeting was brief but intense: the priests studied together the Pope’s message and then concluded with the prayer of the Rosary.
