ASIA/CHINA-From the Vatican Council II to the current pastoral: summer training in the diocese of Liao Ning

Liao Ning (Agenzia Fides) - In order to improve overall preparation of priests, religious men, religious women and laity of the diocese, the diocese of Liao Ning in the northeast province in mainland China a series of training sessions destined to respective church groups has begun since July 5. According to information gathered by Fides, the topics range from a review of the spirit of the Vatican Council II to the current situation and development of the Catholic Church, to the pastoral, to the proper financial administration of the diocese. The diocesan priests focus their study on the pastoral program, deepening their knowledge of the principles that guide the administration to improve the parish and diocese. In addition, the Seminary of Shen Yang has opened registrations for the two-year course of religious study engaged in evangelization. Among the topics covered, there is philosophy, theology, scripture, spirituality.
According to information provided by the diocese of Laio Ning, the present diocese was formed in 1983 by grouping the 4 Diocese of Shen Yang, Ying Kou, Fu Shun and Re he. Today, the diocese is divided into 5 deaneries, it has more than one hundred thousand faithful, a Bishop, about ninety priests, two religious congregations, dioceses (the nuns of the Sacred Heart of Mary, with more than one hundred religious women, and the nuns of the Sacred Heart of Jesus , about seventy nuns), the major seminary of Shen Yang, 5 nursing homes for old people, 3 clinics run by the diocesan nuns and three social services centers.
