San José (Agenzia Fides) - Work is continuing at the Second Latin American Continental Congress on Vocations, promoted by the Department for Vocations and Ministries of the Latin American Episcopal Conference, currently being held in Cartago (Costa Rica), from 31 January to 5 February, 2011. Work on the first day was focused on a number of reports which brought into evidence that the great cultural change taking place in Latin American society, with all the possibilities and limitations that come with this, the Rogationist fathers in San José report to Fides. In his address, Father Carlos Silva, a member of the National Centre of Vocations in Uruguay and Professor in the Department of Pastoral Ministry in the department of vocations for CELAM, remarked that pastoral care for vocations on this continent “has more of a future than a past”, especially if it counts on joining forces with the youth and family ministries. In addition to lectio divina, led by the Claretian biblical scholar Father Gabriel Naranjo Salazar, in which a broad framework has been given to the role of the Word of God in vocations, another important aspect of socio-cultural situation of the continent has been addressed, in order to better understand how social and ecclesial reality is proposed in the discussion on vocations.
