Bangkok (Agenzia Fides) – Many youth joined in celebrating the first anniversary of the Camillian Home for Disabled Children that was begun in Bangkok in 2008. Over the course of this year, the Camillians have taken in several children with disabilities, contracted new instructors, and intensified the activities of the Home.
The center is now home to 10 disabled children, which the residential staff cares for in all their needs. The children are provided with physical treatments, physical therapy, etc. as well as educational activities such as learning Thai, English, and Mathematics. For the blind children, there are special courses in Braille and computers. “We are happy with how everything is unfolding at the Home,” the Camillians of Thailand said. “Our mission is to take in as many children as we can and offer them a better future, offering them and their families hope.”
The Camillians have been in Thailand since 1952. They run several healthcare institutes and care centers, a school of nursing, a center for AIDS and leprosy patients, assisted living centers for orphaned and abandoned children. In Bangkok, the Camillian Hospital is today one of the most highly-equipped healthcare institutions in the capital, which is a fruit of the Church's activity in the area of healthcare and a sign of evangelization through charity in a largely Buddhist nation.
For AIDS/HIV patients, the Camillians promote work therapy, reinserting the patients into society, a prevention campaign, and public encounters for spreading awareness on the problem of AIDS. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 04/02/2009)
