“Inter-ethnic Dialogue and Reconciliation”: 16 - 18 April in Rome international Symposium promoted by Friars Minor

Rome (Fides Service) - From Friday 16 April to Sunday 18 in Rome at the Auditorium of the Pontifical Oratory of San Pietro (via S. Maria Mediatrice 22), there will be an international symposium on Inter-ethnic Dialogue and Reconciliation, promoted by the Friars Minor (OFM). Friday 16 will be devoted to the theme “ Inter-ethnic Dialogue and Reconciliation in Franciscan Fraternities”. Interventions will include a talk by the OFM Minister general followed by dialogue with the relator; a round table with interventions from Franciscans from Pakistan, Indonesia, South Africa, Mozambique, Israel, United States. Saturday 17 will be devoted to “ Inter-ethnic Dialogue and Reconciliation among peoples”. The main talk will be given by Archbishop Robert Sarah, Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples. Speakers at the round table will include Bishop Bertin Administrator apostolic of Somalia, and Bishop Mario Giro (Comunità S. Egidio) and Father. Pierre Cibambo (Caritas Internationalis). On Sunday 18 April there will be a Concelebration of Mass at the Friars Minor chapel, on the theme of reconciliation and commemoration of martyrs, presided by Card. Renato Raffaele Martino, President of Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. With a special mention of Friar Giorgio Gashugi, killed in Rwanda on 18 April 1994, and all the victims of the genocide. During the Symposium it will be possible to visit an exhibition “The missionary evangelisation of Friars Minor in history and on the continents” in the cloister of the OFM general Curia.
