Rome (Fides Service) – At the end of their 86th plenary assembly the Catholic Bishops of Argentina voiced deep concern for a proposed bill to legalise abortion. The Bishops made an explicit request for “laws which promote life, the principle of human rights, inalienable and which cannot be renounced, and which defend the shrine of life which is the family”.
This is a statement from a Pastoral Document “Family, Communion of Love, a Task for all” issued at the end of the meeting from which there emerged alarm for “critical circumstances under which the family is living today”. The family, the Argentinean Bishops say, has as its original vocation to be a school of humanity and love, an excellent remedy for overcoming the evil effects of unemployment and abandonment which lead to tragic consequences such as violence, delinquency and drug addiction especially among young people.
Human life, they underline again, is a precious and sacred reality and it must be respected from the moment of conception to its natural end.
