AMERICA/BOLIVIA - New SIGNIS-Bolivia Branch to co-ordinate and coach Catholic communicators to have more social impact

Thursday, 12 July 2007

La Paz (Agenzia Fides) - On 20 July in La Paz, Bolivia, there will be the official launching of a new SIGNIS-Bolivia Branch, (Association of Catholic Communicators). The initiative was first taken by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bolivia and other Catholic Church bodies in June 2003 during a 3rd National Meeting of Catholic Communicators in Bolivia. In a Letter inviting all Catholic communicators to the presentation of the new Association Bishop Cristóbal Bialasik of the diocese of Oruro and president of the Bishops' Communications Commission, writes that the verbal founding of the SIGNIS-Bolivia Branch was signed on that occasion. Also at that time an ad hoc committee was set up to draft the statutes of the new organisation and convoke a constitutive meeting.
The event will begin with a day of reflection on 19 June on the themes: "Catholic Media and Communicators at the crossroads of Information in Latin America "; "The Role of the Catholic Communicator in Bolivian Society"; "Edu-communication as a path for building a culture of peace"; "Criteria a action lines for the new Association of Catholic Communicators". On the 20th July there will be the official presentation of Bolivia's own national SIGNIS.
The Association aims to accompany and assist Catholic communicators, individuals or institutions, to view events and report from the point of view of the Catholic faith and identity, to organise awareness campaigns and offer information and advice. Signis-Bolivia will cover all areas of communications, evangelisation, spirituality, animation and co-ordination, means area, formation, research, education and communication.
