ASIA/PAKISTAN - Don Bosco Technical Institute: a seed of hope for school drop-outs

Thursday, 12 July 2007

Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - The Don Bosco Technical Institute for Boys in Lahore recently passed government school inspection with flying colours. The government inspectors' report said it is in favour of renewal and completion of inscription of the Salesian Centre in the Register of Technical Education in the state of Punjab. According to ANS, the Salesian community welcomed the results which rewarded years of effort to obtain official recognition to be formalised before the end of the year.
After three years of hard work the Salesian Centre's project to give instruction to children who stopped going to school has been approved. The project includes the opening of four new workshops equipped with machines from Germany and Italy. Teachers will take refresher courses and the structures will be adapted for basic education. On 9 June 54 boys from poor families received a technicians diploma. The Salesian Institute with its collaborators represents a seed of hope for young people living in an area unsettled by episodes of violence and religious clashes. (K.P.)
