Legazpi (Agenzia Fides) - Don Bosco College for Technical and Agricultural Training in Legazpi, peninsula of Luzon (Philippines), marked its 6th anniversary with the opening of two new classrooms. The new school year which began in mid June proposes an ample formative offer. On an area of 5 hectares with a school, 148 girls and boys aged 17 to 23 learn to use machinery for the agricultural products.
According to ANS new agency the director of the formation centre, don Luigi Parolin, says this is an important contribution to promoting development in horticulture and farm production in a mountainous undeveloped area, mainly cultivated with coconuts. Besides technical training the students study basic management and business techniques. Young farmers also have the opportunity to acquire skills in special courses. An increasing number of local boys and girls from poor rural families benefit from these programmes which are free. (K.P.) (Agenzia Fides 10/7/2007; righe 14, parole 186)
