OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - The Pope appoints Auxiliary Bishop of Aitape

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 2 July 2007 appointed Rev. Otto Separy chancellor of the diocese of Wewak, Auxiliary Bishop of Aitape (Papua New Guinea) assigning to him the Titular See of Pupiana.
Bishop elect Otto Separy was born at Kubila (Diocesi di Wewak) on 5 August 1957. In 1980 he entered St. John’s Minor Seminary in Wewak. He spent a ‘spiritual year’ at Erave, Southern Highlands and then studied philosophy and theology at Holy Spirit Seminary in Bomana, Port Moresby. In 1988 he did a year of pastoral work at Sassoya parish and Dagua parish in the diocese of Wewak. He was ordained a priest on 19 June 1991 for the diocese of Wewak. Since his ordination he has ministered as follows: 1991: three months assistant priest at Sassoya parish; 1991-2001: parish priest at Tau and Bongos; since 2001: parish priest at Kaindi, Hawain and Yarapos and chancellor of the diocese of Wewak.
