Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - According to a report issued by the Argentinean Association for Respiratory Medicine, every year in Argentina about 10,000 people die of diseases connected with work which were not diagnosed as such, one of these diseases is cancer.
Of the 10,000 deaths, 3.000 are due to respiratory illnesses. Over the past six years hundreds toxic substances have been discovered in places of work of; today more than 400 are registered.
The problem is serious all over Latin America although in Mexico there is better control than here and in Chile. In Mexico statistics are more reliable and organisations are more controlled compared to Argentina.
The latest figures issued by the national Supervisor for Work Risk, relative to 2005, are far from reality, since they report that registered occupational diseases affect on 1.7% of the labour force. (AP) (22/6/2007 Agenzia Fides; Righe:16; Parole:160)
