Dublin (Agenzia Fides) - The Irish Missionary Union (IMU) in conjunction with the Pontifical Mission Societies National Office are now in the seventh year of a ten-year plan aiming to restore and celebrate October as the month of mission in the Church in Ireland. Plans for the month of October include the production of an annual resource book available for each school and parish; a day of prayer and recollection for IMU members on the 1st October; a national week of encounter inviting people to share experiences on the theme 'Leaving Your Shores'; a mission involvement in a Common Ground Exhibition in Cork City; the celebration of Mission Sunday in every church and oratory in Ireland including a nationally televised Mass on Mission Sunday, concluding with a multicultural Eucharistic Celebration in Dublin on the 28th October. The work of missionaries reflecting God's love in the areas of HIV/AIDS, Trafficking of Women, Ecology and Protection of the rights of children will be highlighted during the month. (S.L.)
