AFRICA/TOGO - The Pope accepts resignation of the Archbishop of Lomé and appoints successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 8 June 2007 accepted the resignation of the pastoral government of the archdiocese of Lomé (Togo), presented by Archbishop Philippe Fanoko Kossi Kpodzro, in conformity with the Code of Canon Law, canon 401 § 1. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Denis Komivi Amuzu-Dzakpah Archbishop of Lomé (Togo). Until now Rev. Denis Komivi Amuzu-Dzakpah was Vicar General of Lomé and secretary of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Togo.
The Archbishop elect was born on 10 October 1943 at Kpogame Tahasi, archdiocese of Lomé. After attending local primary and secondary school in Tarasi and Tsévié, he went to St. Joseph College in Lomé from 1957 to 1965. 1965 al 1972 he studied philosophy and theology at the Urban College in Rome. He was ordained a priest on 22 May 1972. Since then he has ministered as follows: 1972-1978: Professor at St Joseph College in Lomé; 1978-1979: assistant priest at Aneho; 1979-1984: Studies for a doctorate in philosophy at Saint Paul's University Ottawa, Canada; 1984-1991: Spiritual director at the Major Seminary in Lomé; 1992-1998: secretary general of CERAO in Abidjan; 1998-2003: parish priest, vicar general of Lomé and secretary of the Catholic Bishops Conference.
