Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - "If we work together we can grow together” "is the slogan of the annual national Caritas collection in Argentina taken in parishes across the country on Sunday June 10, to meet the most urgent necessities. The president of Caritas Argentina, Bishop Fernando María Bargalló of Merlo-Moreno says "the message this year reflects the present situation, undoubtedly there is more stability and economic growth, but not everywhere in the country." This growth does not affect everyone in Argentina.
Bishop Bargalló said the aim of the collection is to "increase awareness of the importance of solidarity. That the country will grow in equity with a distribution of income and opportunities for all if we all work together as this year's theme says". People must realise that the common good is reached not only with efforts on the part of the state alone but with commitment and collaboration of every member of society.
During the weekend volunteers who work with Caritas will organised various events cultural, sports, recreation, to manifest solidarity with the poor and the excluded. Caritas assists about 3 million people all over the country thanks to 32,000 volunteers. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 8/6/2007; righe 18, parole 251)
