ASIA/CHINA - Newly baptised Christians play major role at Pentecost; Pentecost charity party in Tai Pei park

Monday, 28 May 2007

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - Catholics received into the Church at Easter played a major part in liturgies on Pentecost Sunday in China, especially in Beijing. During a solemn Mass on Sunday 27 May the newly baptised received a certificate of baptism and also a certificate for the first fifty days as full members of the Church. They then had a joyful and grateful meeting with God-mothers and God-fathers. The priests urged them to help one another to grow in the faith. In fact preparation and reception of the sacraments was a joy not only for the newly baptised but also for their respective the God-mothers and God-fathers who found it a wonderful opportunity to intensify the faith and its witness in daily life.
In the archdiocese Tai Pei (Taiwan) on the occasion of the feast of Pentecost a large charity party organised in Tai Pei Park attracted hundreds of people from many different parishes and districts. The party was organised by Holy Family Catholic parish in Tai Pei with the collaboration of other parishes as an evangelising endeavour to help people know more about Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. The stalls included demonstrations in the art of tea making, ethnic food and spectacles, medical visits and various scanning services. Besides the planned activities people were on hand to answer questions about the faith and learn more about the Catholic Church. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 28/05/2007 Righe: 22 Parole: 237)
