Monday, 28 May 2007

Abidjan (Fides Service) - Saturday 26 May will be a day to remember for the Orionini family in Africa. In Cote D'Ivoire in Anyama the foundation stone was laid for a new Orionini seminary. The Congregation of Saint Luigi Orione reported to Fides.
Saturday 26, Feast of St Philip Neri, at 11am, Superior general Don Flavio Peloso present in Africa with the bursar Don Fermin Fernandez for the regular canonical visit, blessed and laid the foundation stone for the new seminary.
The Congregation of Saint Luigi Orione put up its first tent in Africa in the first months of 1971 with Rev. Angelo Mugnai and Rev. Marino Collina. In 1972 it was entrusted with the Catholic Mission at Bonoua and later (1981) with the Mission of Grand Bassam and (1984) Moussou. At Bonoua, which became the vice provincial see, the congregation opened a Professional Training Centre in 1975 and a Don Orione Centre for persons with a disability in 1980.
In 1987 the Orionini presence extended. It accepted the mission at Anyama, where a diocesan seminary already existed. In 1995 the activity expanded further and the sons of Don Orione went north to Korhogo accepting to care for the parish of Our Lady of Fatima. In 1996 they built a Novitiate House in Bonoua. In 2003 construction work began on a Shrine dedicated to Our Lady of the Guardia. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 28/5/2007 righe 21 parole 248)
