AMERICA/PERU - 27 May: Holy Childhood Day in Peru on the theme “Lord, we are your little disciples, make us your little missionaries!”

Saturday, 26 May 2007

Lima (Fides Service) - For the Pontifical Mission Societies in Peru Sunday 27 May is the annual nation Holy Childhood Day. This year the slogan is “Lord, we are your little disciples, make us your little missionaries!” As part of the initiatives today, Saturday 26 May, school children from all over the capital will take part in a Festival at San Miguel Catholic school run by the Claretian fathers. A special Holy Childhood Mass will be followed by music, a play, and games.
Similar initiatives all over the country include Huancayo's 2nd Holy Childhood Pilgrimage held last Saturday 19 May with hundreds of children in procession through the streets of Huancayo. In Arequipa the diocesan office if the Pontifical Mission Societies has organised a Holy Childhood Festival with games and other activities. The event, held in the auditorium of St Juan Battista parish is open to boys and girls from schools and parishes in the city. The highlight of the Festival will be a special Holy Childhood Mass presided by Archbishop Javier del Rio Alba of Arequipa. The diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Arequipa, Fr Víctor Livori, says the slogan was chosen in keeping with the theme of the 5th General Conference of the Bishops' Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean opened last week by Pope Benedict XVI in Aparecida, Brazil: "A true disciple of Jesus - Fr Livori explains - wishes to imitate Him, follow Him and be His missionary".
