Friday, 25 May 2007

Lima (Fides Service) - "United Family Path to Peace" is the theme of the 18th national solidarity campaign 'Sharing 2007' to be launched on Saturday 26 May in Lima. The aim of the campaign promoted by the Catholic Bishops of Peru is to increase awareness with regard to domestic violence which destroys families and to promote initiatives to foster more unity and peace in the family. The campaign will be presented at 10am at St John Baptist parish in San Juan di Miraflores with the participation of Bishop Juan José Larrañeta Olleta, OP, Vicar Apostolic of Puerto Maldonado and secretary general of the Peruvian Bishops' Conference, Bishop Carlos García Camader of the diocese of Lurín; municipal authorities and representatives of the Ministry for Women and Social Development.
The Campaign presentation will be preceded by a march of children from local schools and parishes with banners on the theme of domestic violence along the main city streets towards St John Baptist parish church. In Peru circa 60 per cent of the families experience domestic violence: against the wife, the children and even against adults or children with a disability.
