Sydney (Agenzia Fides) - Profession reporter: many Australian school students are trying their hand at journalism. On the occasion of World Communications Day Catholic students all over the country have been invited to take part in a Media and Faith project launched by the local Church.
The programme was sponsored by the Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference ACBC which issued a Pastoral Letter in 2006 on Communications with the title of the Letter was “Go tell Everyone”. The theme has been enriched with the Pope's Message for World Communications Day 2007, on the relationship of children, media and education.
The students were asked to write an article, a report, a prepare video, said Bishop Peter Ingham, head of the ACBC Media Commission. The nation wide project was launched and explained on the Internet with on-line study and research material available for downloading.
The programmes aims for “self-education” by means of practice: trying their hand at the profession young people become aware of how the media works, its influence on people. They also see how media messages can be inspired and consistent with Christian values and Gospel principles. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 19/5/2007 righe 25 parole 252)
