EUROPE/ITALY - Research for Development: University Campus Bio-Medico inaugurates new research centre and discusses new strategies to intensify scientific research in Italy

Rome (Fides Service) - On Friday 18 May at 9.30am in via dei Compositori 130 a Trigoria, University Campus Bio-Medico of Roma, there will be a “Research for Development” Day dedicated to the presentation of the University's new research centre and an encounter with the scientific world, entrepreneurs and representatives of the institutions in order to identify new strategies to intensify scientific research in Italy, stop the brain drain in this field and foster closer contact between companies and university. The event will take place at the new Campus Bio-Medico di Roma. Built in two years with an investment of 35 million Euro partly from European funds, the Centre for Advanced Research in Biomedicine and Bioengineering covers an area of 20.000sqmt. and has places for as many as 300 researchers.
During the event the University will present its own strategies for developing the sector. Fundamental traits include, co-ordination of the activity of the different laboratories in "Research Lines" in order to optimise investments. Among them: senile age pathologies, Neuro-sciences, Oncology, metabolism malfunction, Technologies and ICT applied to biomedicine. Great attention will be given in the future to clinical research in close collaboration with the medical staff of Rome's university hospital, Policlinico Universitario. “We will focus especially on European projects and research in collaboration with companies and root ourselves in the production system of this Regione Lazio and the whole of Italy” says Prof. Paolo Maria Rossini, scientific director of the University's research department. “We intend to make our contribution to development and give young Italian researchers access to company incubators, in which they can grow professionally and demonstrate their competitiveness, instead of having to turn to foreign companies ”.
