AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Holy Childhood Day in the Month of May: “we are missionary children and we help the children of the world "

Tuesday, 15 May 2007

Bogota (Fides Service) - The Pontifical Mission Societies in Colombia devote the month of May to organising Holy Childhood events to help children become more aware of their Christian calling to love and help less fortunate children with their prayers, little sacrifices and offerings. According to information sent to Fides by Fr Héctor L. Valencia, national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Colombia, this year's slogan "We are missionary children and we help the children of the world", is inspired by the founder of the Pontifical Mission Society Holy Childhood Bishop Charles August Marie de Forbin-Janson, that “children may help children”.
During the month every diocese organises various mission awareness building activities such as meetings, marches, missionary rosaries, cultural events and so on, all focussed on the chosen theme. Although the day is a celebration it is above all a time for prayer, to collect offerings to help less fortunate children in other countries. Suggestions for organising the day include: praying the missionary Rosary for children on the five continents of the world, visiting families in the parish collecting money with the Holy Childhood money box to help for generous offerings in favour of the children of the world, organising with the help of animators activity groups to collect funds for children in need.
