VATICAN - Catholic Esperanto Movement renews consecration to Blessed Virgin Mary via Vatican Radio

Monday, 14 May 2007

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Sunday 13 May members of the Catholic Esperanto Movement all over the world tuned in toVatican Radio to renew together their consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The first act of consecration was made 25 years ago, on 13 May 1982, when, on behalf of all the members, the then Bishop of Rimini Giovanni Locatelli over the microphones of Vatican Radio consecrated the Catholic Esperanto Movement to the Immaculate Heart of Mary with a special act and prayer. This year the Catholic Esperanto Movement is celebrating over 30 years of Vatican Radio programmes in Esperanto (regular broadcasts in this language started on 2 January 1977) and the 15th anniversary of canonical recognition of the International Union of Catholic Esperanto speakers IKUE on 11 February 1992. IKUE is one of the oldest Catholic movements. It was founded in 1910 in Paris. Its charisma combines a missionary intention (“Go out to the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature ”, Mk 16,15) and a desire for unity (“That all may be one ”. Jn 17,12). (L.M.)
