Rome (Agenzia Fides) - A glance at the figures suffices to realise the serious situation in continents such as Africa where the sub-Saharan area has 29,4 million people affected by HIV/AIDS, 70% of the world's total.
"Satellite and advanced Tlc for humanitarian aid in Healthcare" will be the theme of a meeting organised by Medmatic@, in Rome, Wednesday 9 May at the Casa del Cinema. The first session will focus on Healthcare and advanced Tele-consultation (Tlc), very important in humanitarian aid.
Italy is involved, with the support of the EU and the European Space Agency, (ESA), the World Health Organisation and the Italian Health Ministry in plans for healthcare intervention using advanced Tlc as strategic platforms.
This is the case of the Alleanza Ospedali Italiani nel Mondo, which, with the project IPOCM (Integrazione e Promozione degli Ospedali e dei Centri Sanitari Italiani nel Mondo), by means of continual medical tele-consultation and formation at a distance, improves the quality of healthcare given at Italian medical centres around the world. IPOCM also aims to build an international network via the Internet among Italian healthcare centres abroad and at home, as well as to reduce clinical-diagnostic and echnical-organisational criticality.
