Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - “Pentecost continues, Argentina hears and answers” is the theme of the 3rd National Mission Congress organised by the Church in Argentina from 18 to 20 August in the town of San Nicolás, province of Buenos Aires. The objective of the Congress is to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and discern ways of being disciples and missionaries of Jesus Christ in the Church in Argentina, and from the Church in Argentina for the evangelisation of the world. Specific goals include: intensify missionary animation and cooperation in the particular Churches, identify ways to respond to the call to mission launched by CELAM 5 and prepare participation and contributions for the American Mission Congress CAM 3 in Quito, Ecuador, in 2008. Each of the three days of the national congress will have its own theme: Pentecost: community generated by the Spirit; Discipleship: Community disciple of Jesus; Evangelisation: Community on mission for humanity.
During 2006 the different pastoral regions of Argentina prepared for the National Congress with Regional Mission Meetings, a path which will continue until the celebration of CAM 3 in 2008. The previous 2 national mission congresses were held respectively in Santa Rosa, La Pampa, in 1997 and in Mar de Plata in 2002.
Each diocese will send 15 delegates involved in pastoral activity to take part in the National Congress. The Congress organisers hope to contribute to the missionary activity of the Church in Argentina, strengthen bonds of communion and participation among particular Churches and intensify efforts for mission Ad Gentes.
