AMERICA - The Presidents of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences called for final preparatory meeting before CELAM 5 General Conference in Brazil in May

Bogota (Fides Service) - Cardinal Francisco Javier Errázuriz Ossa, Archbishop of Santiago de Chile and President of CELAM the Council of Bishops’ Conferences of Latin America has convoked the Presidents of Latin American Bishops’ Conferences meet for final preparatory meeting before General Conference CELAM 5 in Aparecida Brazil 13 to 31 May.
The final preparatory meeting in Bogota 27 and 28 March will be attended by 21 presidents of Bishops’ Conferences, the Central Commission for CELAM 5 charged with the organisation of this major church event. The participants will make last minute decisions with regard to this continental appointment to be inaugurated by Pope Benedict XVI at the national Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida.
The Pope will be in Brazil from the 9 to the 13 May. During the visit the Holy Father will preside various events: at the city’s sports a meeting and a Mass with young Brazilian Catholics stadium; in the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida the recitation of the Rosary, with local clergy, deacons, men and women religious, seminarians and candidates for the consecrated life.
