EUROPE/ITALY - Experts on the Family meet in Rome to discuss family policies and sign “Rome Declaration on Family Rights and Responsibilities” for presentation to the United Nations Organisation

Rome (Fides Service) - Family Rights and Responsibilities is the theme of the 17th international meeting on the family organised by the International Federation for Family Development IFFD on the 23 and 24 March at the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Rome. Experts from 44 will discuss and identify initiatives and means to promote family unity and improve the social, political and economic conditions of families in the world.
The event will bring together about 700 analysts, family counselling experts and educators of 90 IFFD member non profit organisations active in 44 countries to promote Practical Parenting since 1976. The UN granted IFFD Special Consultative Status.
Reports and discussion will focus on family policies in various areas; combining work and family; education of children; the family and economic development. The Meeting intends to sign a final document already approved by Family Policy organisations on all five continents, the Rome Declaration on Family Rights and Responsibilities for presentation to the United Nations Organisation.
The programme includes: two conferences, Family Policies by Janne Haaland Matlary, docent in political sciences at Oslo University and former Norwegian foreign minister; “Family and Economy”, by Prof. Harold James docent in European History and Economics at the University of Princeton, chairman of World Politics magazine editorial committee; a Family and Media panel discussion with Prof. Norberto Gaitano, Prof. Paolo Braga, Prof. Elisa Manna, Prof. Rosario Sádaba, and Prof. Patricia Thomas; 8 workshops on: Family Social Responsibilities; Combining Work and Family; Starting and Developing Family Orientation in a country; Ongoing Formation for Parents; Family and Freedom of Education; The Family in International Forums; Practical Parenting Experience; Formation of Experts in Practical Parenting.
