Bangalore (Fides Service) - “In India it is a challenge to live as authentic Christians in our own surroundings first, to tell the Good News to our neighbours, other cultures and other religions in a dialogue of life” said Archbishop Oswald Gracias president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India CBBI addressing delegates of the National Conference in preparation for the Indian Mission Congress.
The Congress will be held in 2008 and the national and diocesan offices of the Pontifical Mission Societies in India are fully involved in preparations organising meetings and initiatives at various levels .
Archbishop Gracias presided the Eucharistic Celebration on the opening day of the national Conference 7-9 March for diocesan directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies, diocesan secretaries for CBBI Proclamation commission, rectors of major seminaries.
Special guest from Rome Mgr Jan Dumond, Secretary General of the Pontifical Society St Peter Apostle said it was his first visit to India and he was delighted to witness the great progress the Church has made in India: “The foremost mission of the Church is to build community as in the early Christian times. And then there is a move towards the world which is foreign to the Christian community values and faith. This openness to the world is an historical sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit who impels us with divine dynamics”, he said
Archbishop Bernard Moras of Bangalore reminded those present of the effects of globalisation on the culture of modern people and, pointing out that youths from different parts of the country migrate to Bangalore en masse seeking jobs in the IT industry and professional and technical education, he said “pastoral care of this young migrant generation is the formidable task of the Christian community”.
The aim of the Conference was to identify themes for reflection, strategies and ideas for the 2008 Mission Congress. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 13/3/2007 righe 24 parole 248)
