Kinshasa (Fides Service)- Over 900 families displaced by civil war in Congo will soon move into brand new homes in Cardinal Etsou Peace City in an advanced stage of construction in the Mokali district, in east Kinshasa capital of Democratic Congo.
According to the local news agency DIA “the city has been built to pay homage to the late Cardinal totally dedicated to restoring peace in the country”.
The project is undertaken by NGO ASSODEV association for solidarity and development which mediates between donors of funds, the government and the homeless families. Rev Oswald Bagaza, director of ASSODEV explains that besides homes the project includes, schools, a health centre and an orphanage.
Rev. Bagaza called on local Catholics to make donations to help complete Peace City. In the part of the city which has been completed a bust of the late Cardinal has been set in place and there will also be a Cardinal Etsou Museum.
