ASIA/PAKISTAN - Bible groups for prayer and study involve young and old

Lahore (Fides Service) - Thanks to the activity of the Catholic Bible Commission of Pakistan a thriving movement of Bible Apostolate to encouraged study, interpersonal sharing and prayer on the basis of the Word of God is spreading among Christians across the country. The Commission, created in 2001, publishes and spreads the Bible in Urdu. The Commission also launches courses of formation, Bible Study and a series of projects until 2008.
About 100 people mainly lay people of various ages have signed up for courses in morphology, lexicography, hermeneutics, philology to learn more about the history, structure and significance of Christian Scripture. The courses also encourage mediation and sharing of the Bible to bring the light and assistance of the Word of God to daily life.
With its 19 courses for 2006-2008, the Commission aims to “to spark more interest and desire for a better improve understanding of the Word of God”, said the president of the Pakistan Bishops’ Conference Archbishop Lawrence Saldanha of Lahore who praised the initiative for which Aid to the Church in Need has pledged a grant.
