Tuesday, 27 February 2007

Kandisi (Agenzia Fides) - Don Orione missionaries have been present in Kenya since the arrival in 1997 of the first Italian priest Fr Giuseppe Vallauri, who had been resident in England for many years. Fr Vallauri settled in Langata South Road in the outskirts of Nairobi purchasing a house which later became the first seminary. Today there are 10 Orionini fathers in three communities in Nairobi, Kandisi and Madaraka Thika. "On 25 February we celebrated two important events - says Fr Giuseppe Vallauri, in a letter to Fides -, 10 years of our presence in Africa and the ordination of deacon Raphael Kailemia. The ordination took place in our parish at Kandisi, presided by Bishop Cornelius Schilder, MHM, Bishop of Ngong diocese to which our Holy Spirit parish belongs. The event was sign of hope for the growing Orionini community in Kenya". (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 27/2/2007 - righe 11, parole 164)
