ASIA/INDIA - IN INDIA DENGUE KILLS 83 PERSONS AND EFFECTS MORE THAN FIVE THOUSAND

Rome (Fides Service) – In the past decade monsoons have caused a wave of Dengue fever in India killing at lest 83 people and infecting more than 5,100 in one of the worst epidemics ever known, and it is feared that the number of infected persons may triple. This mosquito carried fever, also called break-bone disease, comes with high fever and severe haemorrhaging. It reaches its topical point in the monsoon period striking about 1,000 people every year. The southern State of Kerala registered the highest number of victims, 63, the others were in New Delhi. Dengue cannot be cured and there is concern in particular for children.
